Today was Sunday Streets here in San Francisco. My friend Andrew and I ended up walking almost four and a half miles today, in the Potrero Hill, Bayview and Mission neighborhoods. I am pretty sure that’s the most I’ve walked in one day in…several years. My knee is still bothering me (more on that next week) but all this walking is, without question, much easier now that I’m 34.5 pounds lighter.
This week I started to go to DIAKADI on Saturdays (on top of my three workouts per week with Billy) to do some extra cardio. I’m increasingly confident and comfortable in the gym by myself, which is a good thing. Months ago if you had shown me several photos of adjustable contraptions with poles, cables and straps hanging off of it, I might not have been able to tell you which ones belong in a gym and which ones belong at the Folsom Street Fair. Now I’m pretty sure I can.
But the highlight of my week was having lunch with Kevin Johnson, the Commit to Fit recipient for 2009. Kevin’s lost about 180 lbs in the last two and a half years. This is no small feat, for anyone, no matter how much help you have. His story is amazing and I found our conversation to be inspiring. I told him to write a book! It was great to meet someone who has done what I am doing, with the same team of people. I have about 90 or 95 pounds left to lose before I’m at my goal weight, and I suspect I will think of Kevin often during the rest of my journey. I found myself thanking Kevin for all that he’s done, because it’s possible if he hadn’t bravely reached out to Manuel at MV Nutrition a few years back, there might not have been a Commit To Fit program for me to participate in this year. For that, I am extremely grateful.
