Eat More Not Less: Cheeseburgers

by Eating Free

Ah, cheeseburgers – the classic all-American food. What Memorial Day would be complete without them? If you are watching your weight, you might think cheeseburgers are off limits, but you can enjoy them if you use healthy ingredients!

A classic cheeseburger can have 480 calories and 27 grams of fat! And that’s even before you add any chips or fries to your meal! Here is an example of a typical cheeseburger recipe.

The following reduced fat recipe uses lean ground sirloin (look for 96% fat free) and low fat cheese (3 grams of fat or less per serving) to reduce calories and fat. Meanwhile, the classic fixings give it full flavor, and creamy avocado gives it a delicious heart-healthy boost! This recipe has 389 calories and 16.5 grams of fat per burger. Round it out with some salad or fruit, and you’ve got a healthy meal! Perfect for your next BBQ!
