Fruit Food Group

Fruits are a good source of carbohydrates as well as many vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and antioxidants.

 As a general rule the serving size of fruits are:

•    1/2 cup cut fruit
•    3/4 to 1 cup of berries
•    1 medium sized piece of fruit
•    2 Tbsp of dried fruit

Getting a colorful variety of fruits is important. Different colors of fruit provide a wide range of vitamins, minerals, fiber, phytochemicals and antioxidants that your body uses to help maintain a healthy weight, protect against the effects of aging and reduce the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and certain types of cancer.
