Eat more not less

Hunger. Who Needs It?

Lovely carrots.

Science and psychology tell us it makes sense to eat more, not less. That means eating more kinds of foods, as well as eating more frequently. On Eating Free, you’ll be encouraged to eat all kinds of foods, including your favorites. Your body functions best with an array of food types that deliver all the vitamins, minerals, proteins and fats we need to function, so you can forget food plans that cut out whole groups in their entirety. Around here, we’re big on “Eating the rainbow” or trying to bring as many types, textures and kinds of foods into your diet.

The other part of this philosophy has to do with eating frequently. Somehow, we all got it into our heads that skipping meals and denying ourselves food was a good thing. A thing to be proud of. A thing to celebrate and reward. But really, it’s crazy when you think about it. Our bodies are like machines and they need fuel to function. In recent years we’ve come to better understand ghrelin, the hunger hormone, and we know now that skipping meals is the enemy of weight loss. Eat every 3 hours or so and you’ll maintain a constant state of energy without letting your metabolism dip and your hunger surge.
